  • 1 in 4 women (24.3%) and 1 in 7 men (13.8%) aged 18 and older in the US have been the victim of severe
    physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime
  • Intimate partner violence alone affects more than 12 million people every year
  • Women ages 18 to 24 and 25 to 34 generally experience the highest rates of intimate partner violence
  • Children witnessed violence in nearly 1 in 4 (22%) intimate partner violence cases filed in state courts
  • 1 in 10 high school students has experienced physical violence from a dating partner in the past year
  • 57% of college students who report experiencing dating violence and abuse said it occurred in college

State of Ohio Facts

  • In Ohio last year, 157 people died in 108 cases of domestic violence
  • The youngest victim was 4 months old; the oldest was 89 years old
  • 36 Children were present at the scene to witness a parent or caregiver’s murder
  • 16% of perpetrators had a history of stalking
  • 12% of perpetrators had a history of strangulation
  • 55% of perpetrators had a criminal history, 37% included felonies

Open Arms Facts

  • Open Arms provided a total of 9,443 individual services in 2025
  • In 2025, Open Arms received 1,202 crisis calls on our 24-hour crisis hotline
  • 51 adults and 46 children were provided with safe housing at our emergency shelter
  • Supported 250 children in Hancock County through our Child Advocacy Program
