The art contained in the Children’s Survivor Art exhibition was created by children who have participated in various programs of Open Arms.

It is often difficult to elicit even simple information from children, such as how they may view themselves, or who they include in their family structure.  In order to help children share this type of information we ask them to draw pictures of themselves and their families and to complete some exercises.

What you see in this display are some of the responses children have given us during intake and group exercises, and what they have told us are their explanations, or the lack of explanations.

It is our hope that this display will give these children a voice, that they will be able to teach you about those things that in their very depths they themselves perhaps don’t understand.
